Gaming Officials Betting on Web
Wednesday during a meeting of some of the world's largest casino operators it
was said that gaming companies are very well positioned to eventually spread
legalized online gambling to the United States. The chairman of MGM Mirage has
been quoted saying that the companies first venture into online gambling might
have been unsuccessful financially but that is did in fact lay the ground work
for the company to return to the market when the time is right and the people
are ready. They are prepared to have another go at it if and when it becomes
legal in the United States.
Back in 2001 the company set up an online gambling site in the Isle of Man but
it quickly went under because of its very stringent registration process, they
have now learned from their mistakes and are ready to do it again.
Harrah's Casino are also looking at the possibility of getting an online site
going in the jurisdictions that are legal for online gambling, but both
companies are well aware how long this may take and they differ on some of their
opinions about the legalization of particular types of online casino games.
Some owners think that online casino gambling becoming legal again will happen
very soon as some of their competitors think that it could be as much as 8 to 10
years away. The advantage that these companies have is that with their well
known names they know that some players will feel much safer with them and that
that will bring in more players now that they know what they are doing in the
online world.
