France in Negotiations with EU
France is not will to budge on their rules for online betting, but they are
currently talking with the European Union and may be willing to offer some
flexibility in the area of horse race betting.
Recently France was given a warning from the European Commission for their
gambling monopoly which is now preventing any foreign gambling from operating in
their country. Frances budget minister is scheduled to meet with the European
Commission's Internal Markets Commission to discuss new ideas and a way to move
forward in their negotiations. The budget minister says that they are not
opposed to a little opening but their views will remain the same on certain
points and there will be no room
for play.
France has been heard saying that just because a company is known in other
countries doesn't mean they have to open their doors to let them operate in
their country. Negotiations have been taking place for months now, and more
sessions are due in February and March of the coming year. Everyone involved are
hoping that each party are taking the talks seriously and that there will be
some concessions made.
