A brand new study revealed that middle-aged women are the largest demographic of
online casino users. Virtual slot machines, also revealed by the study, are the
game of choice for most women between the age of 46 and 55. Though they spend
less money, the same group had been logged as spending more time at online
casinos.
On the other hand, at online casinos, the typical poker players are young men
between the ages of 26 and 35. For this online casino game, men outnumbered
women almost three to one.
Researchers from the International Gaming Research Unit and Nottingham Trent
University performed the study. Their work revealed more than gender-based
facts about online casinos. 10,865 people from 96 countries were surveyed in a
study commissioned by eCORGA.
According to the study, online gamblers played mainly for the excitement as
opposed to the prospect of striking it rich. Players were asked to name the
“best things” about internet gambling: 3,925 said convenience and accessibility,
while 1,075 responded fun and excitement. Third in preference was winning and
financial reward.
The typical wager at online casinos was revealed to fall between 15 and 30
pounds. Of the people interviewed most of them claimed to be either “up” or
“down” 130 pounds each month.
Video slots, poker, and video poker were revealed as the most popular online
casino games. 90% of players claim to play at home during the evening hours.
However, 1 in 10 women confess to gamble while at work.
